Q: Are the meals really free?

A: Yes, but we are accepting donations to help sustain the program indefinitely.

Q: How do I qualify to receive free meals?

A: Demonstrate proof that your residence holds ten or more elderly or at-risk family members.

Q: How do I order the meal?

A: On the phone at (808) 943-MEAL (6325) or online at malamameals.org.

Q: How soon can I start receiving meals once I qualify?

A: Within 2-3 days due to the overwhelming number of requests.

Q: How many meals can I receive per day?

A: One meal per day for each individual.

Q: Where do the trucks deliver to?

A: We have several trucks delivering hourly to residences and facilities all across Oahu. To minimize the spread of the Coronavirus, Malama Meals arranges a time with the manager or lead caretaker of the household to drop off the meals and leaves them for the manager or lead caretaker to disperse amongst the residents.  

Q: What kind of meals do Malama Meals serve?

A: 80% of our dishes are served with chicken as the main protein. 5% of the dishes are served with pork. 5% beef. 5% fish. 5% Vegetarian. However, these ratios are subject to change as donations and supplies come in.

Q: What if I have special dietary restrictions?

A: Due to the large number of meals being provided we are unable to meet the needs of every individual. 

Q: What time can I get the meals delivered?

A: Malama Meals services the community during lunch hours. Delivery hours range from 8am-12pm, and 1030am-230pm

Q: How are the meals prepared?

A: Our ono meals are prepared in the kitchens of UH West and Da Spot, both of which are following strict sanitation and cleanliness standards. 

Q: How do I know the meals are safe to eat?
A: Malama Meals are following all sanitation and cleanliness guidelines as directed by the federal government at this time.

Q: How long has Malama Meals been operating?

A: Malama Meals began delivering its first meals on 3/21/2020. Malama Meals is a new non-profit organization that was created to respond to the needs of the elderly and at-risk communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the organization is new, the leaders of Malama Meals have owned and operated local businesses here in the state of Hawaii for over 40 years. The Blue Water Shrimp Company has teamed up with the owners of Da Spot to help support our community and to bring food and comfort during these uncertain times.
